Giant eyeball mystery solved!

.

Scientists have solved the mystery of whose eye washed up on a south Florida beach last week. By studying the eye in detail, scientists are certain of where the eyeball came from, and how it likely got there.

It seems like a lot of information to discern from a single eyeball, but scientists have done it.

According to biologists who studied the eye, it came from a swordfish that was about 6 feet in length, not counting the sword. The fish likely weighed about 200-250 pounds.

Scientists say the eye is exceptionally large because it is an evolutionary adaptation of the creature, allowing it to see at depths of up to 1,000 feet.

They also say the fish was likely caught by a fisherman who cut the eye out and cast it into the sea. They based this conclusion on what appear to be telltale markings of cutting around the eyeball.
